Silver War Medal
to Robert HERBERT for service with 77th Canadian Infantry Battalion who was born in Yarmouth, England
and attested for service
in Smiths Falls, Ont.
on Aug. 24th 1915 at 24 years of age. Served with 224th Canadian Forestry Battalion C.E.F and was honorably discharged and then joined again on March 15th 1916 at Armprior, Ont with 77th Ottawa Overseas Battalion.
A very scarce medal to 77th Battalion as battalion was broken up to provide replacements for the 46th and 73rd Infantry Battalions fighting on the front and only those soldiers who reached England but were not sent to the front retained the original 77 Can. Inf. on the medal.
Impressed along edge: 144940 PTE. R. HERBERT 77-CAN. INF.
