    Description

Early Vintage Antique Large Pond Model Sailing Yacht Sailboat in excellent condition. Hull construction is plank on frame as opposed to "bread and butter" method or solid block carved. Has alligatored varnish throughout and was never painted. 77" long with max beam of 16" and a distance of 22" from deck-shear to base of fin keel without lead which adds 4" more. I've had several yachts over the years and have not seen one like this where the lead has a slot in it for the base of the fin keel to slide into and then fasten with the 2 bolts. Lead weighs 32 pounds and the boat weighs 45 pounds without the lead. 2 masts are included which are in photo about 8'. Each mast has a 4" x 1" vertically mounted piece of metal which I evaluate as the gaff mount point. Don't know if this was never finished or if is early enough to be without rudder. Feedback from other model yachters suggest ca 1890 as date. There is a short stick with a rubber end which points to a simple method of sailing straight across a pond with retrieval necessary. Only hardware are 2 rails along the 2 mast holes a few inches apart and a simple stern traveler. There is no rig. This was purchased at the famous Red's Pond in Marblehead, Ma 30 yrs ago. Reds is a known model sailing yacht capital. Pick up only in Vero Beach. No international sales.
