The MTP connects to the Mac's serial port like any other interface, yet a single MTP offers eight independent MIDI Inputs and Outputs, offering 128 MIDI channels (eight ports x 16 MIDI channels). Up to two MTPs can be connected to each Mac serial port, delivering a grand total of 32 independent ports, ie. 512 MIDI channels.
